Hartpury are happy announce a pre-season trip to the Ospreys, a leading regional side in Wales who, as many Hartpury supporters will know, compete in both the Guinness Pro 14 and the European Champions (Heineken) Cup.
The Ospreys are a true power-house of Welsh rugby, with the best playing record of any of the four regional representatives from the Principality in last season’s Pro 14 and with a long list of current international players on the roster.
As will be the case with most leading clubs, those international stars will be spending the summer deep in preparation for this year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan – which starts in September – meaning that Hartpury will not be facing up to the likes of Alan Wyn Jones, Gareth Hanscombe, Bradley Davies and George North.
However, the Ospreys are sure to pose a massive pre-season test for the Red & Blacks, with players of the calibre of Hartpury old boy, Gareth Evans, and another former Gloucester Rugby man, ex-Wales international James Hook, in their ranks.
The Ospreys were originally formed as a result of a merger between two famous rival clubs in West Wales, Swansea and Neath, in 2003 and it will be at The Gnoll, the home of Neath RFC, that the match will take place on Friday, August 30, with a 7.30pm kick off. All support very welcome.
Whilst no other pre-season games are currently being announced, it is anticipated that Hartpury will also be involved in ‘competitive’ training outings with both Gloucester Rugby and the Bristol Bears in the run-up to the new campaign, although no specific dates have been announced.
