The club have announced the signing of back row forward Mat Gilbert for the approaching season.  This represents a return to Hartpury for Mat, who completed his degree here before moving on to play the game professionally.

He joins us from Worcester Warriors, having also represented Bath Rugby, the Scarlets and Modigliano (Italy) during his career to date.  As a young player he was also on the books at Kingsholm.

Apart from being an extremely useful an experienced player, Mat is unusual in that he has achieved all of this despite being severely deaf – he has played for the England Deaf team on numerous occasions and is tireless in his efforts to encourage more opportunities for deaf children to get involved in the sport.

With a busy season on two fronts looming – with Premier level BUCS rugby moving to a more challenging national format for the 2016-17 season – Mat is a hugely welcome addition to the resources at the club.
