The RFU has announced that it has agreed a mechanism to determine final league standings for the 2019-20 season. This will include the Greene King IPA Championship, the National Leagues and all other tables within the community game.
The calculation will be based upon the current playing record.
Promotion and relegation to/from the Championship will be maintained. We can confirm, therefore, that Newcastle will be returning to the Gallagher Premiership at the first time of asking, while Yorkshire Carnegie, after a difficult 12 months on and off the field, will be relegated to National One.
For the record, Richmond – relegated from the Championship last season – are currently several points clear at the top of National League 1. We assume that we can look forward to welcoming them back to the Alpas Arena next season.
Logically, Hartpury will finished 11th – the same as last year – although we can all console ourselves with the fact that we would have won all of our remaining games in 2019-20…
I’m sure we all very much hope that pre-season for 2020-21 will not be unduly disrupted and that we are able to start the new campaign in September. However, the most important issue at this time is that we all get through the current crisis safely and we therefore urge all of our supporters to take the utmost care of themselves and those dear to them in the weeks ahead.
