Hartpury have again named a heavily changed (and still provisional) squad for Friday’s Championship Cup visit to Bedford Blues – a venue they were at only two matches ago – although have managed to retain the spine of the team that put in a commendable effort against London Irish next week.
The club are currently nursing long injury list and, with the university first team having played an energetic 80 minutes in the defeat of Durham in the BUCS Super Rugby competition last night, options are limited in a number of positions.
Ben Foley returns at full-back while in the three quarters there will be starts for Jamie Forrester and Aquille Smith. In the pack, both Angus Southon and debutant Harry Holland will be asked to back-up strong shifts from last night’s match.
James Stephenson and Mat Gilbert come back into the starting breakaway unit.
The bench is also a mix of youth and experience. There is a first involvement for former Hartpury student, Fijian Tawake Tomasi, as well as Jordan Liney, who returned to Hartpury at the start of the current season. Alex Gibson and Tom Everard are others who ‘double-up’ from the BUCS game last night while the seasoned campaigners, Richard Bolt and Luke Cozens, reperesent and handy half-back combination, if and when needed.
