Hartpury seek a win up North to return to the top of BUCS Super Rugby table

After a five-week break, BUCS Super Rugby is back as Hartpury’s University 1st XV travel north to take on Leeds Beckett University.

Beckett currently occupy bottom spot in the inaugural Super League table, but Hartpury DoR John Barnes remains wary.

“They have yet to win a game this year, but when they played us here they looked a lot better than that statistic would suggest”, he said.

“They’ve suffered some very narrow defeats and their points difference is actually much better than the team above them. I think it will be a test”.

It’s our game in hand and hopefully one we can get through. After that, with four games remaining and three of them at home, we should be in decent shape.”

Hartpury currently sit second in the league behind Loughborough on points difference, but with that game in hand and a better playing record.

They go into this evening’s match with a reasonably settled side. RFC prop and former BUCS-winner, Des Merrey, is on duty, as is the team’s leading try scorer this season, Rhys Tudor (pictured scoring vs Beckett in the 30-23 win in November).

Seb Negri, newly-signed by Benetton Rugby, skippers the side from lock, while in the backs Sam Leeming moves to 15, with Lewis Dennett starting at fly-half.

The full side is (1-15): Merrey, Stratford, Gibson, Harper, Negri, Wilson, Agnew, Morris; Cochrane, Dennett, Neal, Forrester, Cooke, Tudor, Leeming. Replacements: Wrafter, Grinsell, Bachurlewski, Upton, Pashley, Cox, Little.

Go well!
