Hartpury University RFC are pleased to confirm that scrum half Luke Carter has been named as the club captain ahead of the 2019-20 Greene King IPA Championship season.
Carter joined Hartpury in the summer – from Ealing Trailfinders – and he actually started his senior rugby career in Gloucestershire, with Cinderford RFC, before spells at Bracknell, Rosslyn Park and Rotherham Titans.
He joins other senior players, such as Luke Eves, Iain Grieve, Dan Murphy, Rupert Harden and Fijian international, Akapusi Qera, in bringing maturity to what is essentially a young squad.
Head Coach, Mark Cornwell, said “We are extremely happy to have Luke on board and to be able to announce him as skipper for the season ahead.”
“He brings with him all the experience of playing at this level for both Rotherham and, for the past three seasons, a very strong Ealing side. I have no doubt that he will be able to set a great example both on and off the field.”
Carter will get his first chance to lead his new club in competitive action when the team travel to Castle Park, home of Doncaster Knights, for Saturday’s opening fixture in the 2019-20 Championship Cup competition.
