Hartpury Under-18s first team could take a big step forward in their quest for an eighth successive AASE League national colleges title today, when they take on Exeter College in a massive game here at Hartpury, 2.30pm KO.
Both teams are one from one in this second half of the competition, with Hartpury having claimed a 30-3 victory at home to Henley College last week and Exeter having seen off Beechencliff.
Hartpury Director of Rugby, John Barnes, said: “This is going to be a very difficult test for the Under-18s and they need as many people to get behind them as possible.
“When we played Exeter at their place in the first half of the competition, we had to battle back from 17 points down to just edge it, so the lads know the scale of the challenge facing them.
“It’s likely to be their toughest game in this second stage and whoever wins it will fancy their chances of going through to the final with only one game left in the group.
“They had an excellent result last week against Henley. Without playing particularly well, they won, did not concede a try and secured the bonus point right at the end. That could well end up being crucial.”
