Team news: Hartpury continue to explore options in Falcons test

Hartpury again make a number of changes for the visit of the Falcons, the last of three Championship Cup games which open the current season.  There will be a further tranche of cup fixtures in December.

With a relatively light injury list, Saturday’s selection suggests on-going rotation as the management seek to test combinations ahead of next weekend’s Championship league curtain-raiser, versus the Doncaster Knights.

One player who has done more than enough to impress the coaching staff, new signing Seb Nagle-Taylor, is partially rested by a move to the bench, with Will Safe – after two good appearances as a replacement – getting a start at Number 8.

The experienced Akapusi Qera and Dan Murphy will become the only forwards to have started in all three cup fixtures so far, while tight-head Alex Gibson will make his first start of the campaign.

Young lock, Harry Butler, who has also appeared for Gloucester in this season’s Premiership Cup, joins Joe Batley in the second row.

The starting half-backs remain the same, although there is a new pairing in the centre where the promising Joe Margetts will be joined by former Hartpury AASE-winner and England age-group player, Jack Reeves, who made three first-team appearances for Gloucester in 2018-19.

The wingers are unchanged for the third successive week, while Mike Wilcox returns at full-back, with George Simpson taking a place on the bench.  Prop, Ashley Challenger, in his first season at Hartpury, is also among the replacements.
