Hartpury in good shape for Coventry clash

Dual registered tight-head, Ciaran Knight, returns to the starting line-up for tomorrow’s trip to Coventry.

Knight’s last outing was as a second-half replacement in Gloucester’s hugely impressive Premiership away win over Saracens at the Stonex Stadium last weekend, so the Hartpury scrum should be in good hands, particularly with rock-solid cousin, Shaun, on the bench as cover.

On the other side of the scrum, Conor Maguire has shaken off the effects of covid and steps straight back in to replace Totti Benz-Salomon, who tweaked a knee against Nottingham in a stellar performance last time out.

The engine room remains unchanged, with Dale Lemon and James Dun both starting.  In the loose forwards, Oli Robinson – another player to have been singled out for praise for his recent performances by Head Coach, Mark Cornwell – shifts from Number 8 to blindside to accommodate the return of the impressive Mitch Eadie, while Joe Howard completes a powerful-looking trio.

There is a very familiar look about the back division, although with Deago Bailey away with the England U20 squad there is a first start of 2021-22 for Charlie Powell, another player to have always made good impressions on his previous appearances for the club, dating back to 2018.

Matty Jones is also on England age-group duty, so BUCS Super Rugby player, Oscar Lennon, continues to understudy Toby Venner at scrum half – the club deciding not to risk JB Bruzulier by returning him too early.

James Scott is a current covid sufferer, meaning that Josh Gray and Harry Short offer the back-five options among the replacements.  Tommy Mathews is a welcome returner in a 5/3 split, having concluded a short-term opportunity with Wasps, where he had been since early October.
