Hartpury name Jersey Reds cup line-up

Hartpury have made a handful of changes to the side that performed erratically in defeat to Richmond last week. These are a mixture of enforced and rotational switches for the 2nd Round, 1st-leg, Championship Cup tie.

Oscar Lennon

There is good news in the return of Oscar Lennon at scrum-half and he will form a useful half-back pairing with the Bristol Bears-bound James Williams.

The other change in the back division is a relatively rare RFC appearance for the pacy Alex Forrester, who steps in for Deago Bailey, a double try-scorer last week.

Despite some initial concerns regarding injury and illness, the front five remains unchanged, while Xavier Hastings and Joe Howard join the breakaway trio in place of Harry Short and Aled Ward who move to the bench.

Replacement loose-head Lewis Holsey (Warriors) is one of only three dual-registered players in the squad – the others being Gloucester lock forward, Will Britton, who has performed well in recent weeks, and youthful Bristol 9, Rhys Price.

Mark Cornwell, Hartpury Head Coach, said “The value of the competition for many clubs is the opportunity to give senior experience to younger players.”

“We are a bit more restricted due to our small squad size, so we’re pleased to be able to name 23 fit players who should give a good account of themselves.”

“We expect Jersey to be treating this competition seriously and, with a squad of full-time professional players based on the island, to bring a strong selection to the Alpas.”

“We know all too well what their strengths are and we are expecting a tough, physical examination from the Reds pack. The important thing is that we keep ourselves in touch on the scoreboard in order to have something to travel for for next week.”
