Hartpury have named a youthful starting XV for tomorrow’s British & Irish Cup clash with the visiting Scarlets Premiership Selection.
Only four starters – Maliq Holden, Nick Carpenter, Joe Dancer and Darrel Dyer – remain from the side that saw off the challenge of Rotherham Titans in the Championship fixture two weeks ago.
Dyer and replacement prop Mike Daniels, both 25, are the oldest players in the match-day squad.
Former Bath and Falcons academy player Ed Coulson starts at full-back, while students Elias Caven and Aquile Smith complete the back three.
Charlie Chapman and Sam Leeming create an all-student half-back partnership and there are more undergraduates in the pack where Will Crane, Alex Gibson, Max Clementson and skipper-for-the-day, Tom Pashley all start.
Four of the bench players are also studying at Hartpury, among whom former London Irish and Toulouse academy player, Tom Everard, steps up for his second RFC match, having made his competitive debut away at Ulster A in the same competition.
The Welsh side, comprised of Scarlets academy starlets as well as players selected from leading club sides such as Carmarthen Quins, Llandovery and Llanelli, were narrow winners when the two sides met, in Llanelli, on a wet and windy October day.
Having re-gained the taste for winning in December’s key league clash with the Titans, Hartpury will be very keen to start some sort of run at the beginning of 2018, ahead of visits to Cornish Pirates (B&I) and Yorkshire Carnegie (Championship).
Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 2.30pm and the standard adult entry fee is reduced to just £10 (£5 concessions).
