Hartpury University RFC have, as is typical at this point in the season, named a large squad for tomorrow’s opening outing against United Rugby Championship side from South Wales, Ospreys.
The starting line-up features a number of the new signings announced during the summer, including Charlie Foley at centre, Jean-Baptiste “JB” Bruzulier at scrum-half, Conor Maguire at loose-head and both Xavier Hastings and Oli Robinson in the back row.
The initial fifteen also includes Gloucester Rugby loanees Ciaran Knight, Cameron Jordan and Josh Gray.
Other potential debutants among the long list of replacements include recent England Under 20 players, Tommy Mathews – returning to Hartpury having been here previously as a college student – and towering lock forward, Alex Groves, who is currently on loan from Bristol Bears.
One interesting and unusual fact regarding the squad is that it includes no less then three sets of bothers, with Sam and Robbie Smith appearing alongside Charlie and Ben Foley in the three-quarters. On the bench are twins Aristot and Jonathan Salomon, both prop forwards and current undergraduates at Hartpury.
The match kicks off at 2pm and will be followed at 4.30 by the season curtain-raiser in the Allianz Premier XVs, featuring our own Gloucester-Hartpury WRFC vs DMP Durham Sharks. Bars and catering will be available and adult entry is just £5 for both games. Under 18s and members come in free. You can even bring the dog!
