It is a somewhat sad day, as we have to announce that Will Crane, our hooker and co-captain, will be leaving the club at the end of the current season.
Will joined us from Birmingham Moseley in the summer of 2017, having impressed against us in National 1.
He originally joined Hartpury as a student completing a Sports Business Management degree and played BUCS Rugby alongside RFC duties. He was part of the squad that won BUCS Super Rugby in 2018 and was skipper the following season, although injury kept him out of many games including the successful Twickenham final.
He continued to play Championship Rugby when available, usually vying with Luke Stratford for the Number 2 shirt, including a season where both were co-captains (20-21), a role he has shared again in this campaign with JB Bruzulier.
He leaves to join the Cornish Pirates and we wish him all the very best as a full-time player. We will definitely miss his influence around the club, although he may not miss 0630 report for training!
Head Coach, Mark Cornwell, said, “Will has had an enormous influence both on and off the field. He was relatively raw and new to the position of hooker when he joined us and to achieve what he has is to clearly to his great credit.”
“He has captained the university side and the Championship squad since he has been here and has been an important player for both.”
“We absolutely wish him all the very best at Pirates.”
As always – and in particular with a player that has made such a large contribution at Hartpury – he goes with our sincere best wishes for his rugby and personal future.
Good luck, Will, and see you next season!
